CURRICULUM

MATH
  • The only math homework is watching math videos from my website which prepare students for the next day's lesson. Check my Google Calendar for which videos to watch on any given night.
  • If your child struggles in math, s/he may need to spend more time working on specific math skills at home. The most important foundation math skills for 5th grade are 1) adding with proper "carrying", 2) subtraction with proper "borrowing", and 3) MEMORIZED MULTIPLICATION TABLES (up to 12s).
READING
  • Students are expected to read 20 min./night, 5 nights/week totaling 100 minutes. I don't check up on this - no special form or parent signature required. Please encourage reading of grade-level novels at home. This helps strengthen speed, accuracy, and vocabulary.
SCIENCE
  • 5th-grade Science consists of these concepts:
    • Chemical & Physical Changes
    • Earth's Surface
